Spectrum Cased Keyboard Instructions dk'tronics SPECTRUM WITHOUT MICRODRIVE When you have unpacked your new keyboard you should first remove the base. This is held in by six screws. Your Spectrum must also be removed from its case. The two halves are held together by four screws, (save these screws). Next carefully unplug the keyboard ribbons which connect to the top half of the case and the PCB board. Remove the one small screw which holds the PCB to the bottom half of the Sinclair Case. The PCB can now be removed and positioned on the four posts inside your new keyboard case. It can now be secured by the four screws from the Spectrum case in the positions marked 'A' and 'B' in Diagram One. The coloured ribbon connectors in the top half of your new case can now be plugged into the Spectrum PCB board (marked on Diagram One as 'K1' & 'K2'). The solder side of the connectors should be plugged in the direction of the arrows in (Diagram One). The two halves of your new keyboard case can be fitted and screwed together. SPECTRUM & MICRODRIVE The PCB inside the Interface One must be removed from its plastic case, this is held in by seven screws. The base on your new keyboard case must also be removed, this is held in by six screws. Supplied with your Microdrive was a small double ended connector (See Diagram Two). This must be fitted to the PCB supplied inside the new keyboard case base. Interface One can then be pushed onto the connector & screwed down to the base (See Diagram Two), use tow of the screws from the Interface One case. If for some reason you have lost this connector we can supply new ones at £2.50 each inclusive of post and packaging. Sinclair always supplies one connector for every microdrive that you buy, so there will always be one connector spare that you can use for above. Next remove the computer from its case, this is held together by four screws (save these screws). Carefully unplug the keyboard ribbons which connect the top half of the case to the PCB Board, remove the small screw which holds the PCB to the bottom half of the Sinclair case. The PCB can now be removed and fitted to Interface One and secured by two screws marked 'B' on Diagram One. Next the three inch ribbon connector (supplied with the Interface One) must be fitted. See Diagram Four. The coloured ribbon connectors in the top half of your new case can now be plugged into the Spectrum PCB Board (marked on Diagram One as 'K1' & 'K2'). The solder side of the connectors should be plugged in the direction of the arrows in Diagram One. The two halves of your new keyboard case can be fitted and screwed together. The rear of your new keyboard case once fitted should look as in Diagram Five. FITTING LEGENDS You can now fit the legends to the keytops. The 40 keys are in the same order as the original Spectrum keyboard except the space key which now becomes 'CAPS SHIFT'. The 12 keys on the numeric pad are as Diagram Six. The colour legends (i.e. Black, Red, Yellow, etc.) should be fitted to the front face of the top row of keys in the same order as the original keyboard. Use the all black legends on the red numeric keys. KEYBOARD ACCESSORIES MICRO DRIVE LEAD We can supply a longer Micro Drive lead should you wish to have the Micro Drives further away from the keyboard case. Order as: 8" Micro Drive Lead.
